Global Foundation Nepal Brings Healing and Hope to Bhutanese Refugees

Since the Third Country Resettlement Program concluded and international aid dwindled after 2018, the remaining refugee population has faced a severe healthcare crisis. Without support, residents were unable to afford treatment, medication, or even basic check-ups, leading to what many described as a life of "constant fear and hardship."

Responding to this dire need, Global Foundation Nepal has launched its free healthcare services, made possible by crucial support from the Global Foundation of America. The program provides free medical consultations and medications, serving as a critical lifeline for a community pushed to the brink by poverty and unemployment.

The story behind the funding is a powerful testament to resilience and philanthropy. The Global Foundation of America was established in 2022 by Mr. Praja Dhital, who lived in the Beldangi-II refugee camp until 2001. Having experienced the daily struggles firsthand, Mr. Dhital dedicated himself to social work within the camp before resettling in the United States.

Now a successful philanthropist, Mr. Dhital founded his organization with a mission to support vulnerable people worldwide. His decision to fund the healthcare program in his former home brings his journey full circle, transforming his personal experience of hardship into a source of hope for his community.

In a move to foster greater social harmony, the program also extends its services to the local Nepali host community, offering free check-ups and medicines to ensure equitable access to healthcare for all.

For the refugees who endured years of uncertainty, this initiative has done more than treat illnesses; it has restored a sense of dignity and reminded them they are not forgotten. The generosity of a former resident has become a beacon of hope, creating a powerful cycle of support and proving that a commitment to humanity can overcome even the most challenging of circumstances.
