Bhutanese Refugee Youth Shine at Himali Rodhi Cultural Dance Competition | Beldangi Event Highlights

Beldangi, Mangsir 20, 2082 – The Himali Rodhi Cultural Family, in coordination with SMC Beldangi and with the special sponsorship of Mr. Yamraj Gurung, a former dance instructor of the Himali Rodhi Cultural Family now residing in Ohio, USA, successfully held the grand finale of the Single Cultural Dance Competition at the Beldangi Gumba Ground.

The event aimed to preserve and promote art, traditions, and culture among Bhutanese refugee youth, and organizers noted that the competition played a significant role in instilling cultural awareness and pride among participants.

The competition was divided into Junior and Senior categories, and a group cultural dance segment was also held during the finals.

Group Dance Results

  • Dhakula Dance Club – 1st Place (NPR 20,000 cash and trophy)
  • Sunakhari Dance Club – 2nd Place (NPR 10,000 cash prize)

Junior Single Dance Results

  • Merina Rai – 1st Place (NPR 15,000 cash prize)
  • Jesika Rai – 2nd Place (NPR 10,000 cash prize)
  • Merisha Magar – 3rd Place (NPR 5,000 cash prize)

Senior Single Dance Results

  • Sujata Ghising (Pathari Camp) – 1st Place (NPR 50,000 cash + trophy)
  • Chewang Dorje Tamang – 2nd Place (NPR 30,000 cash + trophy)
  • Sushmita Rai – 3rd Place (NPR 10,000 cash + trophy)

The event also featured special performances by national artist Babina Kirati and the renowned comedian Phulande Ko Aama, which added extra excitement and energy to the atmosphere.

Organizers emphasized that events like this are crucial for preserving cultural heritage and fostering a sense of identity among Bhutanese refugee youth. By engaging in traditional and modern dance forms, young people not only celebrate their culture but also develop confidence, teamwork, and creative expression.

With the active participation of artists, community representatives, parents, and audiences, the competition highlighted the importance of passing cultural knowledge to the younger generation, ensuring that the heritage of Bhutanese refugees continues to thrive while empowering youth to embrace their roots.
