Global Health Clinic: A Beacon of Hope for the Bhutanese Refugee and Host Community
The Global Health Clinic, a project of Global Foundation Nepal and financially supported by the Global Foundation of America, has become a vital lifeline for the Bhutanese refugee community in Beldangi. The clinic offers free medical services to hundreds of families, treating conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes, and other common illnesses.
What makes this clinic truly special is its dedication to serving both the refugee and host communities equally. Everyone receives free medicine and check-ups, ensuring that no one is left behind due to financial hardship.
Challenges After the Exit of UN Agencies
After the withdrawal of UNHCR, AMDA, and other UN agencies from the Bhutanese Refugee Camps, many refugees began facing serious challenges—especially in the health sector. Without the previous financial and medical support, most families struggled to afford even basic healthcare.
Many people could not buy medicine for minor illnesses and some hesitated to visit a doctor because of the cost. Chronic patients, such as those with hypertension or diabetes, found it difficult to continue regular treatment. The lack of affordable health services left the community vulnerable and anxious about their wellbeing.
In this difficult situation, Global Foundation Nepal, with financial support from the Global Foundation of America, stepped forward to fill the gap by establishing the Global Health Clinic. Their continuous efforts to provide free medical care have brought relief to hundreds of refugee and local families who would otherwise have limited or no access to proper healthcare.
Doctor Visits and Health Support
Each week, professional doctors visit the clinic to examine patients and provide treatment. Regular check-ups help people manage chronic conditions early and prevent serious health issues. The clinic staff also offer practical guidance on healthy living—encouraging nutritious diets, regular activity, and timely medication adherence.
Helping the Community Stay Healthy
Beyond treatment, the Global Health Clinic focuses on awareness and prevention. By educating the community about disease prevention and the importance of routine check-ups, the clinic contributes to a healthier, more confident community.
A Message of Care and Unity
The work of the Global Health Clinic reminds everyone that good health is a basic right. It demonstrates how compassion and cooperation can bring positive change. Refugees and local residents working together for better health is a powerful symbol of unity and hope.
The continued efforts of the Global Health Clinic deserve deep appreciation. Their work not only heals bodies but also strengthens the spirit of care, compassion, and togetherness in Beldangi.
