“Where There Is a Smile, There Lies the True Light of Dashain”
Chi-Chi-Nana Karyakram 2082: A Celebration of Humanity and Hope in Beldangi
The true essence of Dashain came alive in Beldangi this week, not through grand feasts or lavish decorations, but through heartfelt acts of kindness. In loving memory of the late Elan Gurung, the Beldangi Natya Pariwar successfully organized the humanitarian event “Chi-Chi-Nana Karyakram 2082” under the inspiring theme, “Dashain for All, Dashain with Children.”
This special program brought together the spirit of
compassion and community, where smiles, gratitude, and shared humanity took
center stage.
A Festival Beyond Celebration
While Dashain is widely celebrated as Nepal’s biggest
festival symbolizing victory of good over evil, this program went deeper — it
reflected victory of humanity over hardship. The event focused on helping underprivileged,
differently-abled, and vulnerable children from the Bhutanese Refugee Camp in
Beldangi, as well as from Pathari–Sanischare and nearby host communities.
In total, 115 children received new clothes and food packages.
For many of them, this was the first time in years they had received something
new for Dashain — a simple gift that meant far more than material comfort.
As one volunteer beautifully said, “Their smiles were
brighter than any tika or jamara. That’s what Dashain is truly about.”
Remembering Elan Gurung
The event was organized in memory of the late Elan Gurung,
whose kindness and community spirit continue to inspire many. His parents, Bhakta
Gurung and Renuka Gurung, along with other family members, provided generous
financial support to make the program possible.
Their presence at the event filled the atmosphere with
warmth and emotion. Community members shared that the program not only honored
Elan’s memory but also carried forward his vision of compassion and humanity.
In his short life, Elan was known for his gentle nature and
helping attitude. His family said that “Chi-Chi-Nana Karyakram” was created to
keep his legacy alive — by spreading love and care where it’s needed the most.
Voices of Gratitude
During the program, Ms. Sancha Hang Subba, the Secretary of Beldangi, expressed deep gratitude toward the donors and organizers. She said, “The true joy of Dashain lies in sharing. Seeing these children smile is the biggest blessing. We are truly thankful to the Gurung family for their generous and loving hearts.”
Likewise, Mr. Karna Rai, Secretary of Pathari, also praised the initiative and extended his appreciation, stating, “Small acts of kindness can create big changes. The happiness seen on the children’s faces today is proof that humanity still shines bright.”
Former Beldangi Secretary Mr. T.B. Rai, who was also present at the event, shared heartfelt words of admiration. He remarked, “The effort of Beldangi Natya Pariwar is a shining example of humanity in action. Programs like this spread hope, unity, and positivity across our community.”
His statement reflected the sentiment of everyone present —
that the event wasn’t just a distribution program, but a reminder of the shared
bond that ties the refugee and host communities together.
A Day of Laughter, Art, and Togetherness
The event wasn’t only about giving material support. The
organizing team made sure it was also a day filled with joy, creativity, and
entertainment for the children.
Many young participants performed songs, dances, and short
dramas, showcasing their talents and cultural pride. Their innocent
performances brought laughter, applause, and even tears to the audience. It
reminded everyone that every child — no matter their background — deserves a
chance to express themselves and feel valued.
The lively performances also carried a deeper message: that
art and culture are powerful bridges of unity and healing, especially in
communities that have endured years of displacement and hardship.
Community Collaboration at Its Best
The success of the program reflected strong teamwork and
community collaboration. Along with the Beldangi Natya Pariwar, the event
received coordination and support from the Settlement Management Committee
(SMC) Beldangi, the Damak Municipal Child Network, and various community-based
organizations within the refugee camp.
Special thanks were also extended to the Bela Café Family,
who provided generous assistance in arranging food and refreshments for all
participants and guests. Their contribution ensured that everyone shared not
just food, but also fellowship and joy.
The collaboration of multiple organizations showed how
powerful community unity can be when driven by empathy. Together, they turned
an idea of compassion into a day that hundreds will remember.
A Message That Touched Every Heart
As the event came to an end, organizers draped traditional dosalla
scarves around all the donors and contributors as a gesture of honor and
appreciation. Applause filled the air, and the smiles on the children’s faces
said more than words ever could.
A local participant described the moment perfectly:
“When you give with love, you don’t just share material
things — you share humanity. That’s the real victory of Dashain.”
Many attendees were seen wiping tears as they watched the
children laugh and play in their new clothes. The event had become more than a
social service; it had become a symbol of hope, reminding everyone that kindness
still connects people beyond boundaries.
Reflections and Takeaways
The “Chi-Chi-Nana Karyakram 2082” was not a grand or expensive event. Yet, it carried profound meaning. It was a simple, heartfelt gathering that celebrated generosity and compassion — the core values that keep the human spirit alive.
For the Bhutanese refugee community in Beldangi, who have
faced decades of displacement and uncertainty, such programs provide a sense of
belonging and emotional healing. They remind every individual — young or old —
that they are not forgotten.
The program also set a powerful example for the younger
generation. It taught that Dashain is not just about receiving blessings but
also about being the blessing in someone else’s life.
A Celebration Worth Remembering
As dusk settled over the Beldangi camp, laughter still
echoed in the air. The colorful dresses of the children glowed in the soft
evening light. Volunteers cleaned up with cheerful hearts, and the Gurung
family quietly smiled, watching the joy their contribution had created.
In that moment, the memory of late Elan Gurung came alive —
not as a loss, but as a light that continues to guide and inspire. His name,
love, and legacy were celebrated in the most beautiful way possible: through
the happiness of children.
Closing Note
The “Chi-Chi-Nana Karyakram 2082” stands as a shining reminder that the greatest festivals are those celebrated in the hearts of others.
When a community comes together with love, when hands extend in support, and
when children smile with pure joy — that is when the true spirit of Dashain is
realized.
As one of the organizers said at the closing ceremony,
“We may not change the whole world in a day, but today, we
changed someone’s world — and that is enough.”
