Vitamin A and Deworming Program at ECDC School | Damak Municipality’s Initiative for Child Health and Nutrition

Vitamin A and Deworming Medicine Distribution Program Successfully Held at ECDC School

A National Vitamin A and Deworming Medicine distribution program was successfully held today at ECDC School. The event was organized by Damak Municipality in coordination with Urban Health Center Damak–3 and facilitated by the Bhutanese Refugee Women's Forum.

Health workers from the Bhutanese Refugee Women's Forum visited the school and personally administered Vitamin A capsules and Albendazole (deworming medicine) to children under five years of age. These measures support children's vision, boost immunity, and remove intestinal worms that hinder growth and nutrition.

💊 Benefits

  • Vitamin A: Protects and improves vision, strengthens immunity, supports healthy skin and cell function.
  • Albendazole (Deworming): Removes intestinal worms, improves appetite and weight gain, and enhances nutrient absorption.
  • Community-wide reduction in infection and better long-term child health and nutrition.

⚠️ Precautions

  • Some children may experience mild side effects: nausea, stomach discomfort, or fatigue.
  • Do not give medicines on an empty stomach—this can reduce effectiveness or cause discomfort.
  • Parents should follow dosing schedules carefully to avoid missed or repeated doses.

🍎 Food & Care Advice After Medication

Recommended

  • Milk, eggs, fish, and other protein sources.
  • Carrots, papaya, leafy greens, citrus fruits — foods that help Vitamin A absorption.
  • Plenty of water and light home-cooked meals (rice, lentils, vegetables).

To Avoid

  • Very oily, spicy, or junk foods.
  • Cold beverages, or tea/coffee on an empty stomach.
  • For deworming medicine: avoid alcohol and energy drinks; wait 2–3 hours before heavy meals like meat or full milk if a child feels unwell.

If a child shows persistent or severe side effects, parents are advised to contact their local health center for guidance.

🌟 A Brighter, Healthier Future

This initiative is a meaningful step toward improving children's long-term health and nutrition. The cooperation between Damak Municipality, Urban Health Center Damak–3, and the Bhutanese Refugee Women's Forum demonstrates how teamwork at the local level can create lasting, positive change. Together, we are building a healthier, stronger future for every child — one small step at a time.
