141st Birth Anniversary of Mahaguru Falgunanda Lingden Marked with Cultural Harmony at Bhutanese Refugee Camp, Beldangi
A grand program filled with devotion, cultural expression, and unity was organized at the Kirat Mangeslung Manghim, located inside the Bhutanese refugee camp in Beldangi, to commemorate the 141st Birth Anniversary of the 16th National Icon of Nepal, Mahaguru Falgunanda Lingden Jyu. The celebration reflected deep respect and faith towards the revered Kirati spiritual leader, known for his lifelong teachings on morality, truth, and social harmony.
The event drew a large gathering of refugees, community leaders, and cultural groups. It was more than a ritual observance; it became a collective reflection of shared values and an assertion of cultural preservation. Representatives from all ethnic groups, castes, and religious organizations residing in the Beldangi camps were invited to participate. Organizers emphasized that the event’s inclusive nature symbolized unity in diversity and promoted cooperation and good governance within the refugee community.
The program commenced with a formal inauguration by Guru Kitab Singh Jyu, who lit the ceremonial lamp — a gesture symbolizing the triumph of light over darkness and the spread of knowledge and harmony. The lighting was accompanied by prayers and chants honoring Mahaguru Falgunanda’s enduring contributions to Kirat Dharma and his influence on the moral fabric of society.
Following the inauguration, the stage came alive with colorful cultural performances from different organizations and faith groups within the camp. The presentations displayed not only artistic talent but also the community’s determination to uphold traditions and identity despite the hardships of displacement.
Mr. Tilak Rai, Advisor of Kirat Rai Yayokkha, delivered an inspiring address on behalf of himself and his organization, stating:
“We should embrace and live by the teachings of Mahaguru Falgunanda. His message of peace, unity, and righteousness remains a guiding light for all communities. It is through his wisdom that we learn to rise above differences and build a harmonious society.”
Mr. Rai further elaborated on Mahaguru Falgunanda’s lifelong dedication to uplifting the marginalized, spreading education, and confronting social evils. He noted that these values are essential for strengthening social bonds, especially among displaced communities striving to retain their identity and dignity in a foreign land.
Mr. Sambhu Hang Rai, President of the Bhutanese Refugee Dance Group, also extended heartfelt greetings and emphasized the cultural importance of the gathering. He remarked:
“Culture is our identity. Through dance, music, and devotion, we pass on the legacy of our ancestors to our children, even in times of hardship.”
The celebration included a devotional Bhajan performed by the Beldangi Hindu Society, which filled the venue with a sense of spiritual calm and reverence. The Bhajan underscored universal values shared across faiths and lent a contemplative tone to the program.
Members of Kirat Rai Yayokkha presented the traditional Sakela dance. Dressed in traditional attire, dancers performed with rhythmic steps and synchronized movements that captivated the audience. Sakela, a dance that symbolizes gratitude toward nature and ancestors, is a central expression of Kirati identity; its presence significantly enriched the cultural depth of the event.
Local youth groups, women’s associations, and other faith-based organizations presented additional cultural items, each reflecting devotion, joy, and pride in heritage. The audience responded with warm applause and appreciation, signaling a shared sense of belonging and mutual respect among the diverse participants.
Towards the end of the ceremony, Mr. Nabin Hang Magar, Chairperson of the organizing committee, expressed sincere gratitude to all guests, performers, volunteers, and supporters for their contributions to the program’s success. He said that the gathering served as a powerful reminder that, even in exile, the community remains bound by culture, faith, and a shared hope for peace.
Mr. Magar added that the management committee of Kirat Mangeslung Manghim has been instrumental in providing spiritual guidance to the community and encouraged continued dedication to festivals and cultural gatherings, which help sustain identity across generations.
May the divine blessings of Mahaguru Falgunanda inspire us to walk the path of compassion, discipline, and harmony.
